“No live organism can continue for long to exist sanely under conditions of absolute reality; even larks and katydids are supposed, by some, to dream. Hill House, not sane, stood by itself against its hills, holding darkness within; it had stood so for eighty years and might stand for eighty more. Within, walls coninued upright, bricks met neatly, floors were firm, and doors were sensibly shut; silence lay steadily against the wood and stone of Hill House, and whatever walked there, walked alone.”
--Shirley Jackson, "The Haunting of Hill House"
p.s. is it just me, or is Blogger being insanely annoying today?
Not just you. It's been letting me log in sporadically and incrementally.
ReplyDeleteI can log in rarely and tenuously.
ReplyDeleteblogger was SO ANNOYING yesterday.
ReplyDeleteand yeah...here's my take on policing desire, from all angles: i'm a survivor and i will be goddamned if i'll let ANYONE - feminist-identified or not - tell me what i should or should not want. my desire's been highjacked before and i am adamant that it not be co-opted again.
