Harold Bloom IS my sister!

From everything I've read, from the anecdotes that I've heard, from the fanvids I've watched, from the dreams I've had, especially those that involve my going back to school and/or losing teeth, Harold Bloom is an intellectual who cares deeply about maintaining standards. He is one of the few people in academia that has the courage to say that JK Rowling is cliched, and that is a message that benefits all writers, including JK Rowling, because it gives her something to strive for. It does not surprise me that there are many so-called writers unable to respect the integrity of their Structure. It does not surprise me that there are many academics who are unable to hear what Harold has to say when being against the decay of everything good and pure about the Canon and Civilization is called ""pompous" and "reactionary" and "chode-esque." When people who read Harry Potter can only defend themselves by saying "well, at least it's better than 'Twilight.'" When four out of five absinthe-addled penguins can write better than Stephanie Meyer with one flipper tied behind their backs. As if there is any logic in that. As if Twilight is "literature." As if penguins would even drink absinthe if it weren't for the international cartels flooding Antarctica with the stuff. It is saddening but not surprising.

Anyway, I think we've all had our say here. I am not interested in continuing this conversation. In fact, I'm not even interested in starting a conversation. I don't care to be "deconstructed" by the posties, thank you VERY much. This conversation is over. Over! LALALALALALALALALALALA ---beeeeeeeeep--

Hahaha, you don't even need me to bring the dead mice. Admit it, you're addicted to hantavirus.

The Sheila Jeffreys' business goes on with the ongoing carnage from L'Affaire Satsuma and the Twistmageddon clearly in the background. Unfortunately, it's caused Amy's Brain Today to take her web site off the air, which genuinely makes me sad, because it was the best online repository of radfem "traditional" writing there was, and I've written comments and posts in the past that linked to it.

Fear not, Mandos. Amy's Brain Today has brought back the archives section of the blog.

Mandos said...

Oh, and the whole blog will be back soon too. If there's anything I hate, it's a site disappearing off the interwebs.

-sporfle- you're such a bitch, mandos.

actually in this case 'twere others who brung it to my attention. you're not the only person who slows down to look at trainwrecks in this neck of the woods. and hexy's a pal, as is Natalia, so.

"Amy's Brain Today" just makes me think of that Steve Martin movie these days.

"Cervelle au beurre noir"

anyway, I thought Twisty loved Sheila Jeffreys. I thought if there was anything all the warring contenders in that rodential Asshat Thunderdome still agreed on, it's that Sheila Jeffreys is swoony.

Mandos said...

No, you have Twisty wrong. She even received a Yellow Card a ways back for deciding that the transwomen=men crowd didn't belong at her place. Twisty is a Shulamith Firestone fan. She believes that reproduction should be fully automated and humans effectively be made neuter by technology.

belledame222 said...

yes, but that doesn't mean she isn't a Jeffreys fan. I swear to God she had this post eons ago saying she and Jeffreys had two hearts that beat as one, or something along those lines. recommending her then-new-I-think book "Your Eyelash Curler Pinches The Soul Of Women Everywhere" or something.

belledame222 said...

i.e. she's not a cultural feminist, but the dour disapproving femme-and-sex-and-so-on bashing bits warmed her chilly little giblets. Where'd you think her "spinster aunt" riff comes from?

Mandos said...

Fair enough. I always associate Jeffreysism with the trans business.

I sometimes feel like the critics on the muppets.

belledame222 said...

well, I wasn't going to say anything, but the resemblance IS rather startling. especially the whole being tiny and made of felt.

belledame222 said...

...come to think of it, actually Harold Bloom really -does- have a rather uncanny...

Harold Bloom is my annoying great aunty who dances to Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep at wedding receptions.

Hey Belle,

Is your current email at gmail? I've been wanting to contact you ~ perhaps continue our past brief discussions of San Francisco.

But Twisty did endorse Jeffreys, even if she disagrees with her on one count.

Sorry it's over, I didn't find out about it in the first place. (sigh)

That should be my new tag-line, now that I am working every fucking day.

PS: I did, however, make another discovery about capitalism: the unemployment rate is 9.4% nationwide because they get rid of people and then double-up on the rest of us...

Belle, Mary Daly started that "spinster" thing, in her feminist dictionary "Wickedary"...then Jeffreys picked it up.

Spinsters are "spinning"--doncha know. (creating, or something)

Get with the program.

sorry to hear it, Daisy. I mean about work, obviously. per dwama, i think it's still going on, at least from their end; mandos probably has been keeping up. lots of multiparty wrangling apparently.

yeah, i probably knew Daly had the spinster thing first--or maybe not the order, but that she did have that as well as Jeffreys. still pretty sure Twisty was inspired by Jeffreys more than Daly, though. much more suited to her personality. and i've never seen Twisty quote or endorse Daly. admittedly i haven't exactly been keeping up.

belledame222 said...

anyway Twisty's rather more a lily of the Texas oil fields I should've thought.

Well, Polly did leave this rather NSFW post:

...that whole mess is the most pristine case of Asshat Thunderdome I have ever seen. well, that and the current Republican meltdown.

speaking of, the news about the BNP seat -was- disturbing. hope that doesn't augur a trend.

Oh, the picture is perfect! Perfect! Sublime!
