TRUE Lesbian Feminism, Part 1
Let me tell you about lesbianism.
We used to talk a lot about lesbianism as a political movement - back in the old days when lesbianism and feminism went together, and one heard the phrase "lesbian feminism."
Today, we hear more about lesbian sadomasochism, lesbians having babies, and everything lesbians need to know about sex - what has fashionably come to be called the "politics of desire."
In this series of entries, I want to talk about lesbianism as a political movement, but before doing that it is necessary to address lesbianism as a lifestyle - what has for many come to be a sexual preference without a feminist politics. That is what this particular entry will be about.
For one thing, this lesbian lifestyle is preoccupied with sex.

The comments thread over there is hilarious.
lisaquestions appears to be acting as agent provocateur and deliberately provoking Drea (shemale) into ever-deeper self-parody.
Lisa is actually quoting actual true clear eyed radicals just about verbatim, there. which just makes it all even funnier.
hahhahahahh win.
It's so hard to consciously satirize people who unconsciously satirize themselves so well on a daily basis, but they're doing a hell of a good job of it. Thanks for the link!
If I abstain from having sex with men does that make me a political lesbian? Is it possible for me to adopt the Clear-Eyed Lesbian Gaze?
*delurks*
LOL!!!
*relurks*
I wondered at first if you made up the tags, so I went over there. It's surreal!
Yeah, I adapted a few actual quotes to respond. Drea's response to those was perfect.
Brownshoes, over time you too will develop a clear-eyed lesbian gaze. Just don't have sex with men and have properly egalitarian sex with women.
Drea posted part 2.
That part 2 is very fun - I've been rather naughty and snarky, and linked to it with a post comparing the "vision" for lesbian feminist sexuality, with some of the poetry and writings about BDSM...
Yeah, Drea's posting is itself snark (Feminist_Lite is a snark community). What she's posting is an almost verbatim reproduction of an article Janice Raymond wrote about how "lesbians are doing it wrong, let the straight women show you the way."
-waves at oliver-
re-delurk anytime...
*head desk*
(might actually end up with a fractured skull one of these days)
I laughed so much I got the hiccups.
Well, after reading that I felt a bit calmer about being targeted. Clearly large swaths of womanhood were targeted and told "UR DOIN IT RONG!"
That Janice Raymond thing is one of the most obnoxious screeds I've seen in a long time.
Wait, that's not a parody?
Florence King rules.
Alon: you mean what Drea wrote? it's a parody, but it's also an -almost- verbatim replay of the Janice Raymond article linked here in comments; and no, sadly, she was completely serious.
Well, the fact that it's more quoted unconscious self-parody than parody at times is a bit...worrisome, that shit rocks!
(there should be a "but" or a "nevertheless" or other such conjunction in there--sorries)
People like that ruin parties you know.
**snerk**
yeah, that's pretty damn funny :)
