Oh, hey, look over at Iceland: world's first openly gay leader!

And a woman, also, too, yet. Johanna Sigurdardottir. True, she got the gig in the wake of the entire country melting down totally and mass resignation of the previous government, and is just holding an interim position till elections in May; but, y'know, progress is progress...

Poor thing. I'm tempted to draw a parallel here. The Onion's headline after Obama was "World's Worst Job Given to Black Man." So now a lesbian gets another of the world's worst jobs. Amazing.

L'Ailee and I have wanted to go to Iceland for a while. At least now we know it'll be female-couple-friendly as well as a vacation bargain.

I know, right?

I'd always wanted to go to Iceland too; one reason for not going (I mean, there were others, but in theory as well as practice) it was always supposed to be so-o-o-o expensive.

wonder how things are now...

Very cool, I knew they elected a woman but not a lesbian. I think that fact is getting seriously under-reported in the press, now that I think of it.

Isn't this the coolest? I'm dancing, here in Pork Smith.

Things are a lot cheaper in Iceland now! Go! They need the money. And if you go at the right time, you can hit Pride in Reykjavík, which is a blast.

How about this quote from the Australian Newspaper for really something:

"She married her partner, Jonina Ledsdottir, a 54 year old writer, in 2002...Ms Sigurdardottir has two adult sons from a previous marriage"

Beautiful innit?

Anonymous is cicely, belle. For some reason my password has become unacceptable. It's the one I'd noted in my diary too...I guess it's because it's been a while?? Anyway...rats.

Still, you win some you lose some. One of these things is bigger than the other!

Cicely: I didn't know you had a diary... could I have a link? I've always enjoyed reading your comments here and elsewhere.

BD: that's progress. On the other hand, Iceland is only about twice as big as Christine Quinn's district. Insert your own snark about a glass ceiling.

hey, yeah, didn't realize you had an online home base, if that's what you meant, that'd be swell.

you might still be logged in under the old version of blogger, or something. these days you need a google account. it's free, just a minor pain in the ass.
