I thought the day of remembrance was a few months ago. Has a full year really passed? If so, I guess I could chalk my confusion to measuring time by how much progress has been made.

On another note: why is it bad that two speakers out of three in Portland were white? That's about right given US demographics...

For the overall population, maybe. As speakers commemorating the specific people being remembered: not so much: the murder victims tend overwhelmingly to be of color as well as trans.

whereas the dominant LGBT organizations, HRC for example, tend to be, well...dominant in most demographic ways; male over female, white over of color, and particularly cis over trans.

Ah. So the basic idea is that since trans day of remembrance is about trans people who've been murdered, the demographic profile should be similar to that of the hate crime victims?

That sounds reasonable enough.
