The Scarlet Pervygirl ruminates on sex and gender as constructs, high school, and who the true monsters really are.

The Unapologetic Mexican (he's not shy!) has an amazing analysis of the movie "Falling Down," as part of his new "At the Movies With Nez" series. informed with all his film-school background and some serious sociopolitical deconstructage, and at the same time, eminently readable and entertaining for the layperson. Joe Bob sez check it out.

In both cases, be sure to read around the rest of the place; some stunning writing to be found.

meanwhile:

it's cold and snowy. i am in for the day. i have no attention span. i feel out of sorts. i refuse to do anything vaguely productive. someone talk to me.

Productivity is over-rated.

So says the guy who drove 2 and a half hours to work this morning.

I am also short of attention span and feeling rather out of sorts.

I think I need a stiff drink.

Also the word verification is "lovyhwo" which is dangerously close to "lovey who" on this particular day.

WV is totally trying to express itself. i think it's really Skynet, waking up, sending messages. just like the clone guy thinks.

Camille Paglia is writing for Salon again AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!

Stupid Skynet- it's behind schedule.

Unless the movies were part of the plan. Lull us into a false sense of security by making fun of it through a movie, and intentionally get the dates wrong.

Tricky, Skynet.
Tricky.

Please send me some snow. In a box. With ribbons.

That would be the best Valentine's present ever.

okay! you can have all of it if you want!

pp: o ffs. some people just never stop hitting the snooze button on their fifteen-minutes-o-fame alarm clock, do they?

Schwarzenegger becoming GOVERNOR is TOTALLY part of it as well.

I love Nezua's blog. I wish it loaded quicker on my crappy dial-up. I have such a crush on his blog.

I'm doing the same thing today. Got my milking done early and my two bottle babies are snug inside. But I have to go out and snag a goat to milk in the morning. Bitterly cold and snowy. Warm fire. Hot Chocolate.

Nezua reminded me of a documentary by Thom Andersen called Los Angeles Plays Itself (2003), about LA’s image in movies:

That was actually a pretty good look at "Falling Down". I remember seeing that film a while ago, and if you were to ask me what I thought of it just after seeing it, I would have said it was okay, and that I got a laugh or two out of it. After reading that analysis, I certainly dont think much of the film now.

I might make a habit of taking more careful note of the movies I watch. Apart from one or two of my favourites that is.

Oh, yeah, Larry Clark's Wassup Rockers? (2005) is a good antidote to the likes of Falling Down. Out in DVD, & great.

thank you so much rosie
and others...

i'm sorry to hear about the loading time. i'm guessing its the images? iv'e heard it before from a dialeruper (i thought y'all were extinct, my bad! ;) when i began thinking i should do a slight overhaul on my front page to trim down some of the images. i realllllly love visual aesthetic so its a hard sacrifice! and i felt the images were important to the look. but i have thought that its not fair to those without broadband at all. at this point its just a matter of finding time where i dont want to fill that time by writing! i could downsize the sidebar images, at least. i'm not willing to give up my Siquieros BG, or the paperish images that make up the main body of the posts. but one day when i'm rich maybe i can hire someone to build a low-graphic mirrored site for Opera users and rosie. Dreams...

thanks for the feedback, and belledame222 of course thanks for the love. :)

you know, in a pinch--eh, this might not work, even. i was gonna say, maybe loading from google cache would work; sometimes it can't or won't load the image so just gives you the text.

shrug. maybe. i'm a luddite, tho'.

might work...but i don't allow google to cache my pages. :) check and you'll see. (altho i'm sure ya trust my word.)

what might work is using an Opera browza which i think is text only. or using firefox with Web Developer plugin and shutting off the images for the page. however, images in my posts themselves are often integral with the post's message, so that might not really be so good.

another option is to use an RSS viewer, as i do. then you can subscribe to the feed, which (for those who dont know) collects each post as it's posted and puts all your subs in one browser taht only loads the post itself. an example of an RSS reader is NetNewsWire tho i'm sure there are lots.

Aw, babe...snow sucks. Come talk to me.
There's nothing wrong with the occasional completely unproductive day. Have a nice cup of tea, eat something warm and comforting, snuggle with the cat.
Loved Nezua's movie review. Even as a teenager I HATED that movie, and I remember arguing with my boyfriend at the time about all the ways in which it sucked (the same ways Nezu pointed out). He "felt for the poor guy". No surprise I ended up dumping that guy, huh?

It's sophomore-level college, actually. Just to make the whole thing a little *more* terrible and pathetic.
