...we've all got something to grind.
belle, i only watched five minutes, before i had to say something. how dare bush call for sacrifice? when is his selfish, deranged ass going to sacrifice his pride, his self-interest and admit that he made a mistake and that he doesn't know how to proceed? why the hell would we send more troops? for morale? hell yeah, it's real encouraging when you see more of your colleagues kept away from home for long stretches, injured, and SACRIFICED. what will more people do? so we can win a phsyical battle, but the battles that are going on now, we can never win. my father, a vietnam vet, has convinced me of that.are our troops really such nameless, faceless chess pieces to him? does he realize that for thousands of them, there was no coming back and for thousands more, there is no coming back the same? is he really so fucking disconnected that he thinks it doesn't matter what the people of the country say, feel, vote?for years, i made bush jokes, derided him, thinking he was an annoying idiot, and not much more. but he is a murderous idiot. an isolated in his own mind idiot. an-i-don't-think-the adjective-has-been-written-to-express-my-disgust idiot.i've heard people say that, when people enlist, being sent to war is just one of the risks they willingly sign up for. but you know what? i'll bet, when they enlist, they don't think they're taking the risk of having a commander in chief so caught up in politics? revenge? nirvana? that s/he displays no regard for their lives, their families, their futures, that s/he would send them off to war with no clear plan, no timeline, no knowledge of how or when or even if they'll come home.i'm sorry, i'm just way too mad right now.
*nod* that's pretty much where Olbermann would appear to be coming from as well.
sick again belle...nice when our leader knows nothing of histories leasons...grrrr.
RE,... history's lesions?
Holy shit. That's the most fully adult thing I've seen on TV in years.
I have a cousin in the Guard. He's already done a tour in Iraq. I don't want him to go back. I really, really don't. He's not even 25 yet. He's got a wife and a kid already and they're trying to have a baby. What happens if she gets pregnant and he gets sent back to Iraq? I don't even want to think about what would happen to my family if he didn't make it back. Our leaders should not be allowed to ask more of us than they are willing to give themselves. I don't seen any of Bush or Cheney's children or grandchildren fighting, do you? I don't see Bush or Cheney or anyone else high in the admin picking up a gun, do you? I don't see them downsizing their homes or their cars or sacrificing their vacation time or working massive amounts of overtime to pay for the gas, etc. that this war is costing, do you? I don't see them worrying about losing their jobs (oh, but I wish I did) or how they're gonna make their rent or how they're going to buy their child that new pair of shoes they need now that the economy is so screwed, do you? Sacrifice? These people don't know the meaning of the word.I've maintained for a long time that Bush is a sociopath. How much more proof do we need?
Well, since this is my first time in your blog, I'd say you've made an impression!Thank you for posting this. When Germans approach me and ask me about how Americans feel about the war in Iraq, I think this clip will be what I recommend they have a look at.
hey, cheers, welcome Bernulf.and yes, it is nice to have someone that at least demonstrates "no, we're not ALL crazy hyper-nationalists who seem eerily determined to ignore all the lessons of history..."
Excellent. Right on.
I watched several minutes until the historical linquist in me couldn't take it any more - ahhhh, Mr. Commentator - you cannot sacrifice something you don't own - while troops may sacrifice themselves for freedom, how exactly does a president have a sacrifice plan? Plus, as much as I am an american citizen, I have difficulty equating America as a God - so which altar exactly are these people being "Sacrificed" - Mars perhaps. Also, unless there is a specific greater achievement to be made, the term cannot be used - simply having people die to maintain a status quo isn't "Sacrifice" it is "expediency"
Wheeeeeeeeee! My blog is presentable! And I have a blogroll now (down at the bottom). Oooooh. Aaaaah. You're on it. Thought you might like to know.
cool, thanks, Katie!
Thank you for the welcome, Belledame - and you're right, it's nice to have something public and concrete to point people to, especially when you find yourself surrounded with German students who want to know 'why'.
Oh, but this is waaaaaaaay too hilarious....at least. it would be if there weren't people actually DYING on the battlefield for this shit....This is the one and the same President who right after the 9/11/01 attacks was telling people to "go shopping" as a means of telling off the "terrists"....who lied through his teeth, his ass, and most other parts of his anatomy to force this country into this mess to begin with, and who personally signed off on the mass carpet bombing, torture, and all out mass killing of Iraqis (see Fallujah and Abu Ghraib, or our "detainees" at Camp Gitmo)...never mind the justification for ripping away basic constitutional protections such as the right to privacy or the right not to have snoopers in your mail or email. And I won't even go into the combat records of either Dubya or his family....Yet, having our troops already stretch thinner by the second, doing third and fourth tours beyond even their limits (without adequate gear or weapons or even armor, mind you)...but WE are the ones who have to "sacrifice"?!?!?!At least Nixon had the good sense to resign. With this birdbrain we have, we may need a coup to drag his ass out....and please, do take Dick Cheney with him, too.Sacrifice THIS. Dub.*two gun salute. preferable with middle fingers extended.Anthony
