Quote of the day: 9/29/06

If heaven have any grievous plague in store
Exceeding those that I can wish upon thee,
O, let them keep it till thy sins be ripe,
And then hurl down their indignation
On thee, the troubler of the poor world's peace!
The worm of conscience still begnaw thy soul!
Thy friends suspect for traitors while thou livest,
And take deep traitors for thy dearest friends!
No sleep close up that deadly eye of thine,
Unless it be whilst some tormenting dream
Affrights thee with a hell of ugly devils!
Thou elvish-mark'd, abortive, rooting hog!
Thou that wast seal'd in thy nativity
The slave of nature and the son of hell!
Thou slander of thy mother's heavy womb!
Thou loathed issue of thy father's loins!
Thou rag of honour! thou detested--

I call thee not.

O, let me make the period to my curse!...

...vain flourish of my fortune!

Why strew'st thou sugar on that bottled spider,
Whose deadly web ensnareth thee about?
Fool, fool! thou whet'st a knife to kill thyself.
The time will come when thou shalt wish for me
To help thee curse that poisonous bunchback'd toad...

--Queen Margaret, "Richard III," Act I scene iii

I hope the Supreme Court squashes this one fast.

The most exquisite comment on this whole mess so far. And to think back in the '70s, we equated Richard III with Nixon...

Don't you know
They're talkin' about a revolution
It sounds…like a whisper
While they're standing in the welfare lines
Crying at the doorsteps of those armies of salvation
Wasting time in the unemployment lines
Sitting around waiting for a promotion
Don't you know
They're talkin' about a revolution
It sounds like a whisper

Poor people gonna rise up
And get their share

Poor people gotta rise up
And take what's theirs…

Finally the tables are starting to turn

Too be we don't have an opposition party to fight this shit....

And I'm not talking about the Democrats, either.

Oh, well...I guess we'll just have to make one ourselves.

I don't care what label it goes under or how they/we get that apparatus to roll. But I. have had. ENOUGH.

i FUCKING well hope so, anyway.

I will support any goddamn one who can actually get in there and stop this bullshit. But, and this is my open message to every goddam asshole who's been sending the usual spam emails as though NOTHING HAS CHANGED, as though this is and has been business as usual: all the money in the world ain't gonna buy you a spine. And if your soul didn't net you enough to afford you that seat then by Christ -I- can't make up the difference. Grow one your goddam self and -then- get back to me. I'll be here in the bar drinking myself shitfaced.

Hi, Belledame, I'm visiting from Ghandi Rules and just wanted to delurk. I love what you did here, I'm just so horrified, I don't even know what to say about it. What has happened to our country? I no longer recognize it.

Hi, Beth, welcome, and thanks. Yeah. The hour groweth late. I feel like I've already been through all the Kubler-Ross stages a thousand times; what exactly does it take? i ask myself and I ask my countrypeople and i ask my supposed fucking representatives. not, for once, rhetorically: I want to know. What's it gonna take? Finally? Because apparently we're still missing something rather fundamental, here.
