Meanwhile, not very far away: different bullshit! similar stench!

Via feministing: Kos sez death threats are nothing to worry about, ladieez; you can all stop worrying your pretty little heads about it. or else just stop...being public. I guess.

It's always nice to see our "progressive" brothers taking misogyny and violence against women seriously.

Markos on Kathy Sierra and female bloggers being harassed and getting death threats:

Look, if you blog, and blog about controversial shit, you'll get idiotic emails. Most of the time, said "death threats" don't even exist -- evidenced by the fact that the crying bloggers and journalists always fail to produce said "death threats".

So let me get this straight: blogging about the oh-so-controversial world of software development means you should expect to get death threats. After all, nothing brings out the crazies like tech-talk. And besides, she probably made it all up anyway.

...Email makes it easy for stupid people to send stupid emails to public figures. If they can't handle a little heat in their email inbox, then really, they should try another line of work.

I mean come on, if you can't handle your address and social security number being published along with threats of rape, hanging, suffocation and death--you're a fucking lightweight...

If like me you view authoritarianism and other Giuliani-like personality traits as forms of incompetence, then Kos is a singularly bad blogger.

Take Firedoglake: it got to where it is in part because Kos needed to promote a female blogger. So instead of biting a bullet and linking to someone who produces good posts, like Echidne, he decided to link to the one female who didn't call him a sexist, who also happens to run about the lowest quality echo chamber this side of Little Green Footballs. The only upside is that absent Firedoglake, all those commenters wouldn't be wasting their time on the blogosphere but engaging in real-life activism, where they could do real damage.

Now, why did Kos need a woman in the first place? Because when people said an ad he linked to was sexist, instead of making a non-apology apology and moving on he decided to declare war on feminism. Then all his feminist allies, including people who didn't think the ad was sexist, like Liza of CultureKitchen, left him.

The blogosphere: separating the wheat from the chaff, and then making the wheat languish on the C list.

I wonder. apart from that: yeah, pretty much.

well and Hamster already had made a Name for herself, i suppose, what with bringing us the Gift of Tarantino an' all...

Yeah, Hamsher was hardly an unknown beforehand. But on the blogosphere she was in the same list as Echidne, Ezra, Amanda, maybe PZ back on the old Pharyngula website... definitely not as big as Atrios and MyDD.

But who knows - maybe she just had good marketing skills. Or maybe there really was a demand for a hyper-shrill Democratic blog that would put Atrios to shame.

Wow. Every time you think he can't possibly be any more of an ass he proves you wrong.
Takes a special kind of talent to piss off half the population on such a regular basis and still be convinced that everyone else is wrong and you're right.

Oh well. At least I can write a book where, discussing why the protagonist doesn't blog, his wife tells him "You're neither a hack nor a complete loser."

I've met some of the FDLians in real life, and they did a pretty good job on the Libby trial.

And I've met Pandagonians and Kossacks in real life, and they're perfectly nice people, too. It's just that when they're on the net, a lot of them have a structural inability to recognize that people can disagree with them for reasons other than internalized sexism/racism/evil/stupidity/Bush worship.

And honestly? The Libby thing is a non-issue. It doesn't even rise to the level of importance of Bush's managerial competence. It's pop culture, like the latest news about Brangelina, only in a setup that allows politicos to pretend it's about politics.

Isn't that what they say about psychopaths after they've been sent off to death row for eating someone?
