Saw this at feministe.

I think Alanis has finally done something worthwhile with her life.

She has a sense of humor. I'm shocked

I've always thought she was funny as hell...

but being all cynical keeping with today's theme and all...you know, wasn't she the one that also wrote/sang the psycho desperate ex-girl friend song known as "You Oughta know?"

I mean, the pussycat dolls, pure evil, want to know if you wish your girlfriend is hot like me, but Alanis there wanted to know if the new girlfriend would go down on you in a theatre!

Hi!!

and yeah, i am hearing here and there that indeed, Alanis is/was capable of teh Funny before. it's mostly just getting over the cognitive dissonance.

and, i mean, of course it's a 1000% improvement over the original; then again so would an Alvin and the Chipmunks cover be.

i did crack up when she got to "you don't want no drama."

i'd also spared myself the misery of ever watching the original video (the song alone is enough to make me put my head in the oven); but now of course i had to go watch for comparison's sake. oh. my. god.

will someone please transport Fergie to the furthest reaches of Alpha Centauri without radio communication toot sweet?

"I told you she was funny."

(Eight whole comments and nobody else pulled that one out? You folks obviously need more coffee.)

I never saw the orginal video, but dear god that is comedy gold. I was pretty partial to the "you went and got a presentable girlfriend, but I bet she doesn't get your dick hard" song. as for her other stuff, meah. until I read
this article yesterday

The shadowy and mysterious Codename V. shares your disdain.

I think you'll like the photo.

eli: and that coming from someone who thinks Gwen Stefani is All That and "Gold Digger" has restored her faith in rap...that's gotta burn.

we will not discuss the "Black Eyed Pees" here

It takes quite a few years for radio to go backwards or forwards from Alpha Centauri, so we might allow her the radio, though this may lead to a need for dragons to burn the falling threads of bad canadian radio music before they destroy civilisation as we know it ever couple of decades - like a sort of interstellar The Hoff

Honestly, I actually liked "you oughta know." does that make me a psycho? * grin *

i always had a hard time picturing the full house guy inducing that kind of wrath.

Ah ... the song stuck in my brain.
Later on I found myself asking Zu what she was gonna do with all that junk, all that inside her trunk?

I kinda like Alanis ...

OK, so I'm a freak. Everytime I hear 'You Oughta Know" and she does that will she go down on you in a theatre line, I always ask (in my head) "Well, that depends. Am I on stage or in the seats?"

*sighs and hangs head* I know. It's very sad. Plus? No way if the guy was Mr. Whatshisname from Full House. Gah.

(And I love Alanis. She was a big part of my Angry Girl Rock phase.)

as i recall, i liked that song the first five or six hundred times i heard it. after that it became a tad overplayed.

Honestly, the hate-on for Alanis is one of those things that baffles me. I always assumed it was mostly guys who were cranky she was getting girl cooties in their alt-pop angst; obviously there's something else at work.

(I am probably discounting the good old it's-popular-so-it-must-suck principle. Which, ask me what I think about that if you don't have anything else to do that day.)

If I wasn't inclined to like her in the first place, anyone whose songs Steven Wilson thinks are worthy of covering is okay in my book.

Hahahahaha. Poor Belle, stabbing her eyes out. My work here is done.

I loved Alanis intitially, hated the new-and-improved sophomore Alanis (of the Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie era), then went back to enjoying her again.

At first I was unsettled by the video because of the fact that it almost seemed like an homage, which would've been unnerving and confusing. Then I watched the "original", re-watched the cover, and saw that her intended goal was sarcasm rather than celebration.

OMG! Someone just posted a video of Ann Althouse doing a cover of My Love Humps!!

belle, i don't think it was bob saget, but the blond one, joey?(ok, feigning ignorance to not reveal, that yes, yes i did watch full house. joey was the comedian uncle. backing out of the thread with my head hung in shame)
