The final word?

And despite it all, I gotta say that she's, um, got a point.

(twists foot, looks at sky, hums)

From Nine Pearls

Actually, I might want to comment on the Girls Gone Wild guy, but I’m so deeply and sincerely disgusted with all notions of more bitching about porn lovin’ vs. porn hatin’, that the thought of even bothering to bother with a round of “wow… it’s a darned shame that porn doesn’t exist in a utopia that only exists in certain radical minds” makes me wanna curl up and go into a permanent coma after dissolving my computer with a vat of acid.

Can I tell you how fucking tired I am of the Sex Positive vs Rad Fem arguments?

I’m so tired that I stopped reading a lot of your blogs, despite the fact that I loved you before you all got so stuck on shit. And, that works on both sides of the debate, ‘cause y’all…. I don’t fucking care anymore.

I’m so tired of it that Suzy Bright can go ahead and suck off Larry Flint on Bill O’Reilly’s show, while wearing heels and a pink boa and a corset made out of Jenna Jamison’s waxed and woven pubic hair, and call the whole exercise an empowering feminist act, and I’ll just let her have it, because I don’t fucking care anymore.

I’m sooooo tired of it that a coven of radical feminists could bring Andrea Dworkin back from the dead using magic Prude Dust, and Dworkin could rent a sky-writing machine and stain the heavens with ‘All Hetero Sex is Rape’ on Super Bowl Sunday, over the game, while cheerleaders sewed up thier vulvas and donned burkas of Implied Sexual Shame at having Ever Stirred a Penis, and I’ll shrug and walk away, because I don’t fucking care anymore.

So there.

Stick that in your pipe and smoke it.

I'll fix the link.

I thought it was funny as hell, myself.

This is hilarious. Especially the Jameson-pubic-hair part.

i'm with BL on this... plus, repeating the tired dworkin misquote/smear loses points too. and wtf...burqas? Can we please, pretty please have anti-racist feminism already?

there's a time to walk away for a while, apparently she's reached hers. I doubt that means we're supposed to shut up and follow out the door.

<< I doubt that means we're supposed to shut up and follow out the door. >>>

I don't know about out the door, but I read her as asking people to shut up or she'd stop reading them. already has in fact.

it's certainly not reintegrative shaming: it's punitive shaming. We need more of that on the Internets!

I'm reminded of the "de-linking" I got because I disagreed with someone. @@

That's funny....last time I heard, Susie Bright panned Jenna Jameson's tome as lame; she never appeared on Falafel Man's show; she was very critical of Larry Flynt, even in her interviews there, and she does NOT innately depict all sex acts as "feminist".

I'd say that she smears both sides equally. Oh, well..to each her own.

shrug. she's ranting. she's also in a place right now where I completely understand her needing to rant; she's got other shit on her mind. I just reposted it 'cause it made me laugh. as for the stereotyping: I took it as her characterizing of either side's stereotyping of the other.

<< Falafel Man's show >>

LOL

But I didn't think the smear was even-handed. I thought it definitely leaned one way: mocking sexpos.

E.g., when she turns to the radfem side, Andrea Dworkin is saying something she never said. That's an attack on sexpos for we supposedly say that's what Dworkin said.

Prude -- an attack on sexpos

Sexual Shame -- an attack on sexpos

Nothing even-handed about it. The only insult at radfems is the 'coven' busines and the burka business, which carries with it the problems Sly mentioned. They aren't, ostensibly, about sexual shame. Assuming they are is applying a Western frame of understanding on their lives.

As for the lack of neutrality: that's fine. She leans more toward the radfem argument. Say it. Pretending to be evenhanded was what was insulting about it.

hey sly -- speaking of. forgot to mention that the link doesn't go anywhere.

I'm...just not inclined to analyze it that closely, you know. she's sick and she's tired of the whole thing; she's far from the only one, whichever side they're leaning toward. I'm sure I'm not gonna stop talking about it either, but I take her point; this can get a bit all-consuming, and it's true that it never does seem to get anywhere no matter how many rounds we go through.

also, given the woman's personal circumstances, she's got very good reason to be sick and tired in general right now. I highlighted this because I like her and I want her to stick around. She made me laugh; I didn't personally find it shaming. If you did, that's cool.

well, probably a good idea to delete all the comments, then.

i think it's a good example of punitiive shaming, not shaming in general.

punitive is when someone withdraws love as punishment for not behaving properly.

they either shove the deviant out of the community or leave the community as punishment. happens on elists all the time. *Harrrumph* I'm going to take my marbels and go home because no one is playing the way I want!

thus, it isn't an alysis where the burden of "feeling" shame is on the deviant. it's on the way the person doles out punishment.

if you follow the link, BL, you might see why I'm inclined to cut her slack.

you might also be inclined to call me a hypocrite because of the way I reacted wrt I don't know the twisty thing.

what can I tell you. I'm tired, too.

i just meant, if you think it will hurt someone, then delete my comments. i understand if it's someone you like. next time -- warn me! or i'm gonna take my marbles and go home and not love you any more. so there!

hadn't occured to me that you're a hypocrite??

I'm glad she's back to blogging. Aldahlia was one of my fav women's blogs before she called it quits. And yeah, she so wasn't trying to be funny--just dealing with awful shit like losing a baby with major snark--one of those defensive acts that we all go through. Kind of like when I have a toothache I wanna yell at my kids cuz there's only so much shit a person can take at one time.

Love Veronica. Hate the pain. And I cut her tons and tons of slack because...well jesus, wouldn't anybody?

I'm glad to have her back, too, sorry as I am about the shittiness of the circumstances.

I would really appreciate it if people who call themselves feminist would actually READ Dworkin instead of merely regurgitating anti-feminist drivel.
